DIY Smoking Devices You Can Make with Household Items

With cannabis being legal in many states across the country, more and more people are interested in the space. The industry is more talked about than ever with helpful guides online about everything from choosing the right strain, to how to clean a one-hitter safely. 

The industry is certainly getting more popular and we don’t see this stopping anytime soon. Cannabis can be consumed in a variety of ways, but smoking is certainly one of the most popular.

While many people are content to use bongs, pipes or rolling papers when smoking, you may not always have access to these nearby. Thankfully, there are actually several household items that can be fashioned into a DIY smoking device, and this blog post is going to look at a couple.

Pen Pipe

Using a pen pipe is one of the most discreet ways to smoke. It involves taking apart a pen and essentially using it as a one-hitter. You will take off the cap, as well as taking off the bottom of the pen. Next, unscrew the metal tip of the pen and remove the ink cartridge. You will then be left with the empty pen, which will serve as the pipe.

The metal trip from earlier is what will act as the bowl. Simply turn it around, and put it into the pen backwards. Next, simply pack your favorite flower into the makeshift bowl, light it and put your mouth up against the other end of the pen and inhale. Be sure to hold it together well and make sure the metal piece doesn’t fall out.

Apple Pipe

This is an old classic, and one that certainly works in a pinch. Not only that, but it is quite simple. The first step is to remove the stem, which will form the bowl. Next, poke a hole through the apple and one side of the hole will be the mouthpiece and the other will be the carburetor.

Then, add a few small holes into the top of the apple and ensure they meet up with the center hole, to allow for the flow of smoke. Next, pack the top of the apple with the flower, light it, inhale on one of the sides of the center hole, and then put a finger over the other one.

Gravity Bong

Another favorite for the DIY smoker is the gravity bong. It perhaps offers the best experience of any of the options, but is a little more involved than the others in terms of creating it. For this device, you will need a plastic water bottle or 2 liters of soda, a mason jar or other reservoir, aluminum foil, and some water.

Take the plastic lid off of the bottle and poke a hole in it, and put the foil into the cap. This will be the bowl. Then fill the jar about half full of water, cut off the top of the bottle and float it in the water. Add your flower into the hole of the cap, tighten it onto the bottle, light it, and then remove the cap. Simply push the bottle down into the water, which will shoot the smoke out and up through the bottle mouthpiece.
