We have yet again come to the end of the week and the end of the week means new music. We have a crazy collection of new music to get you ready for this weekend. This edition includes songs from Nostalgix, Valentino Khan, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X
Act Out – Nostalgix
Vancouver based producer Nostalgix has been making waves in the city. In a recent video posted on her instagram, she states that the EP is about “clapping back and saying no” to those who try to define who you are. We can really feel the boss girl energy especially on this track which has a lot of attitude both in the lyrics and the instrumental. It’ll be exciting to see her continue to pioneer the scene in Vancouver.
Anything – Valentino Khan & Alison Wonderland
Two legends in the EDM community come together on this track. This track is an interesting song for Valentino Khan to be on as it drifts away from his usual aggressive hard-hitting house style and wanders more into the dreamy pace of Alison Wonderland. The track has echoing vocals over a low key melody. However, we can really hear Khan’s influence on the song during the drop with the gritty (but not too much so) bass line. This unique combination really opens up the possibilities of collaborations to see what fusions of sound can be made.
Therefore I Am – Billie Eilish
Global pop-phenomenon Billie Eilish gifts us with yet another beautifully unsettling track. The song is sonically similar to her debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” in the sense that they are both rooted in funk with a darker overtone. However, she undoubtably drops one of her catchiest choruses: “I’m not your friend or anything / Damn, you think that you’re the man / I think therefore I am.”
Holiday – Lil Nas X
After being under the radar for almost a year, the man who fused country and rap is back with a seasonal banger. Lil Nas X comes in on this song with a carol like chorus over a wintery beat. However, he sticks true to his hip hop background with skittery hats and trap drums. The video also features various dances throughout that can only be thought of as a marketing tactic to get on TikTok. In addition, the whole Christmas theme with December around the corner can only ensure that this song will be one to make it to the charts.
And that’s a wrap for this weeks New Music Fridays. Let us know in the comments below who else has been on your radar.
