Pinene: Sent, Location and Properties
Scent: Pine/woodypinene
Foods that contain pinene: Basil, parsley, dill, pine nuts and citrus fruits. Can also be found in pine needles that can be seeped in hot water and consumed as a tea
Commonly found in pine trees.
Pinene actually comes in two types (isomers):
Alpha, which smells like pine needles and is the most commonly found terpene in nature
Beta, which smells like rosemary, basil, dill, or parsley
Medical Benefits of Pinene
Pinene is an antioxidant (prevents oxidation damage to other molecules in the body)
Pinene is a powerful bronchodilator, which helps improve airflow to lungs (helps with asthma)
It also has anti-inflammatory/pain relieving and antimicrobial and antibacterial qualities.
Pinene easily crosses the blood-brain barrier improving memory and alertness.
May counteract some negative qualities of THC.
