The Wellness Soldier – Cooking With Cannabis, Cannabis Decarboxylation
[ad_1]
If you’re interested in learning about how to cook with cannabis, The Wellness Soldier has got you covered. Step one of cooking with cannabis is cannabis decarboxylation.
Why Cannabis Decarboxylation is important in cooking with Cannabis?
Cannabis decarboxylation is the single most important step when cooking with cannabis as you want activated THC to be infused into your mediums. It is a chemical reaction that removes a carboxyl group and releases carbon dioxide (C02). When the THC-a acid is heated above 220 degrees Fahrenheit a chemical reaction activates the THC-a compounds and converts them to THC.
Decarboxylation also releases the flavours/terpenes into the mediums.
The Cannabis Decarboxylation conversion is THC-a X .88.
It’s important to know the THC percentage before you start cooking with cannabis. So what this means is:
- If you have 15 grams of 22% THC raw flower. The 22% refers to the amount of THC-a per gram of raw cannabis flower, so 22% of 1000 is 220. So, 1 gram of 22% cannabis equates to 220mg of THC-a.
- So 220mg of THC-a X 15 grams gives you 3,300mg of THC-a.
- When you decarboxylate you transform the THC-a molecules into THC and the conversion mathematics is THC-a X .88. You will take the 3,300mg of THC-a and multiply it by .88, which will equal 2,904mg THC.
- Cannabis decarboxylation is done at 240 degrees F for 30-45 minutes and 10 degrees higher for CBD.
Provided below is an extra sheet to help with your calculations.
Example:
- Starting amount of grams = 15g
- THC percentage per gram = 22% (revert to decimal)
- Milligrams per gram .220 mg per gram
- Amount of grams X milligrams (15 X 220) = 3,300mg THC-a
- THC-a X .88 (Decarb) = 2,904mg THC
- THC X .80 (For Loss) = Total
For your own calculations:
- Starting amount of grams = ___________g
- THC percentage per gram = ____________% (revert to decimal)
- Milligrams per gram _____________mg per gram
- Amount of grams X milligrams = ____________THC-a
- THC-a X .88 (Decarb) = ____________THC
- THC X .80 (For Loss) = Total _____________mg
